Spicy Pepper Relish Can Really Make A Difference To Your Meal

By Grace Rivera

Adding a bit of spice to any life is possible in various ways; one that stands out is using some spicy pepper relish. Although nine out of ten people choose to rather buy relishes from a store, however there are a small handful of people that will make these relishes themselves. One will be able to find quite a few awesome recipes online.

It will seem that when one reads through these recipes that there is no hard or fast rule as to what type of peppers one should use. In fact most like to encourage one to experiment and combine numerous different types of chilies and peppers. One specific recipe simply requires a person to throw all of the raw peppers into a blender and add ingredients such as salt, garlic, sugar and vinegar.

But one does notice that vinegar stands out as a standard ingredient that is added to these different relishes. Mostly they include wine vinegar which acts as a pickling agent. Besides pickling the vinegar also has natural capabilities to preserve the mixture, this means that these home made relishes can be kept for weeks on end in ones refrigerator.

Most will agree that the bonus of making relishes from scratch is that they can control how hot or mild they want the mixture to be. One person in particular says that making their own mixture was also a perfect solution for using up chili peppers of various sorts that were starting to shrivel up in their kitchen. So it is not necessary for one to only use freshly purchased peppers for this process.

Another often included ingredient is sugar, both brown and white. This is included as the sugar works to counteract some of the acidity and "heat" that these various peppers and chilies contain. Garlic is an ingredient that certainly needs to be added, it is one of those culinary components that mixes perfectly with most anything and in this case compliments the chilies flavors.

Although most of the recipes were raw mixtures, there is one cooked recipe but it takes a lot of preparation as all the various ingredients need to be diced and then cooked for a long period of time over a low heat. Admittedly it is not a quick preparation process however the end product is well worth going through the whole cooking process. Plus the recipe content makes a twelve month supply of this unique relish.

So when one considers that this cooked recipe only needs to be done once a year it suddenly does not seem that big of a deal. What makes this recipe stand out is the fact that it does not only comprise chilies and peppers mixed with the normal garlic, sugar, salt and vinegar. It instead also adds numerous and varying vegetables and several yummy spices such as basil, oregano etc.

Spicy Pepper Relish as a side dish can be added to any plate of food. Once it has been used the old pour on mass produced condiments simply will no longer do. The relishes will add superb flavor to everything from a sauce to a sandwich.
