By Jason Glover

If you are a man that likes to grill out, you are not alone. Many men find grilling to be very fulfilling but so often their food is less than tasty. Here are some helpful BBQ recipes, tips, and secrets, to make your meals more palatable and hopefully get rave reviews from your family.

Fat burgers are better - you would think that buying the leanest ground beef would be the first step in making a fabulous hamburger, but you would be wrong. Dads that cook need fat to permeate the meat and make it tender. Never use less than 20 percent fat and it is fine to use regular hamburger for barbecuing. Also, don't squash your burgers on the grill when cooking. It removes vital juices.

Keep your burger simple - there's no need to go to a lot of trouble when cooking. In fact, easy BBQ recipes are usually the best. Do not squeeze your patties too much and add simple ingredients like garlic, onion, pepper, and a little salt. If you use too much salt, you'll dry out an otherwise fine burger. Use low heat for cooking and let your burgers set before serving.

Create better fire for your grill - when using lighter fluid, give it time to completely burn off before cooking. If not, your meat could taste funny. For improved taste, add mesquite wood, or perhaps hickory or oak. Try several kinds of wood and see which works best. Also, dads barbecuing with tinfoil need a grill that is very hot, for best results.

Ribs need excellent rubs - here is a good rub recipe from Kansas City. Start with a 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/4 cup paprika. Blend in a tablespoon of cayenne pepper, chili powder, salt, black pepper, and onion powder. Rub your mixture all over evenly. When stored properly, the rub will last for six months or so.

When you are out of ideas for the grill - try veggies. All kinds of vegetables can easily be grilled. Try squash, zucchini, and mushrooms. Prepare portabello mushrooms like steak and your guests are sure to enjoy this tasty treat. Experiment and come up with your own grilled vegetable recipes.

Be patient - one of the best dads BBQ secrets for grilling is patience. Don't be in a hurry to put food on the grill and use lower heat and longer cooking times. Plus, use a meat thermometer. 140 to 150 is good for medium rare. 165 should work for medium and around 170 for well done meat.

Throw caution to the wind - you might make a few mistakes but mistakes are great learning tools. Keep trying marinades until you find the perfect one, and don't give up until you get it right. Remember, remove meat from the grill when you believe it is finished. This eliminates burnt and inedible meat. If it needs more time, just replace it on the grill.
