Organic Dog Treat Recipes For Your Pet

By Edna Booker

You don't have to rely on store brand dog snacks. You can follow your own organic dog treat recipes to make healthy snacks for any pampered pooch. You'll be giving him or her something that tastes good and is good for them. Of course before you come up with your own creations, be sure that you know which foods should be avoided. There are many foods that people eat that would be toxic for a four legged friend. Stay away from things such as onions, chocolate, raisins, and many others. When you are in doubt, check before adding it to your ingredient list. Of course, you should also make sure you're buying all organic products from the store. This isn't hard these days since most markets have an extensive selection of these products.

Grains are not the best thing for a pup. Since you will need some for most recipes, use whole wheat. You put some in a bowl along with an egg, a small amount of applesauce, and about 1/2 cup of peanut butter. Stir everything until it's incorporated. Now make some cookies, drop them onto your cookie sheet, bake them for 15 minutes and they'll be ready to enjoy. If you want to turn them into no-bakes, don't add the egg to the mixture.

If you find organic baby food on sale, pick some up for your pooch. Baby food is super healthy, it doesn't have the salt, or fat that adult food has. Add some chicken to these jars of baby food and you'll have a happy canine on your hands.

For some extra fun get a bone shaped cookie cutter. Mix up dough using whole wheat flour, slow cooking oats, an egg, and peanut butter. Mix it up, roll it out and cut out bone shaped cookies. They're adorable. They also make a nice take along gift when you visit a friend with pets.

Tossing a chicken in a pot with some water is the easiest way to prepare chicken. Do this with any cut of chicken, once the chicken is cooked, remove it from the bone, and shred it. Save the broth. Pour some broth into a bowl, add some of the shredded chicken and a bit of flour. Roll this mixture into balls. Store them in the refrigerator and hand them out to your pet as special snacks.

You might also want to add flour and some cinnamon to the above mixture for a different flavor. Turn these cookies into drop cookies. Bake them for around twenty minutes. These will keep for several days out on the counter, or for a couple of weeks when they're stored in the refrigerator.

Dog's like cold snacks during the warm weather just like people do. You can make them their very own pooch friendly version of ice cream. All that you need is peanut butter and plain yogurt. Melt the peanut butter first, then add yogurt to it. Use a spoon to make small bite sized pieces of this mixture. Drop these pieces onto a baking pan that is lined with waxed paper. Freeze the pan until the contents are frozen. Then store them in a freezer bag.

You'll know just what your pooch is eating when you make it yourself. You can also save money.
