While some foods need to be cooked at a high temperatures for short times, larger foods need to be cooked at lower temperatures for longer times. Doing so will allow the larger foods to slowly release their flavors as they cook and to be cooked evenly without under or over cooking.

If you are making mashed potatoes, return them to the pot after you have drained them cover the pot tightly and then let it steam for about 5 minutes. By doing this, the potatoes are able to dry out, which will make them mash into the perfect texture. It will also soak up butter and and cream easier.

Looking for an easy way to prepare the perfect poached egg. While cooking the eggs, adding lemon juice or vinegar, to the water you are using for poaching the eggs will stop them from spreading out. Proteins will coagulate when an acid is used; this will help ensure your get that perfect poached egg every time.

Don't be afraid to over season your meat. Most people actually under season, because the cooking process will weaken the flavor of some spices. With the exception of salt, most seasonings will better enhance the flavor if you use about twice as much as you think you should.

Do not flip your food too often. Flipping not only affects the sear on a piece of meat, but it can cause delicate foods to break and may cause the breading to slip off of pan-fried foods. Wait until the food slips easily off the pan or the food is halfway through its cooking time so that you only need to flip it once.

If you do not like an ingredient like oregano for example, replace it with thyme. Most of the time, the dishes flavor is preserved, and you're happier knowing you don't have to eat something with a flavor you dislike.

When you are cooking pasta the best way to do so is to rely on using at least one gallon of water for every pound of pasta. If you do not use enough water and a pot that is big enough the pasta will surely stick and become starchy when cooking.

It's nice to have a pie quickly when unexpected guests arrive. When you don't have time to create the crust from scratch, use a quality pre-made mix. Add a few tablespoons of sour cream to make the crust flaky so no one will notice that you didn't create the pie from scratch.

If you are going on a picnic, put lettuce and other vegetables in separate containers from condiments. Condiments are not to make sandwiches soggy, so by separating them, you are ensuring your sandwich will taste fresh. Also, do not place any food items next to drinks inside of the basket.
