Are You Brave Enough To Try Ghost Pepper Wing Sauce

By Maryanne Goff

For those who like their food more than a little bit spicy maybe they ought to try Ghost Pepper Wing sauce. This will really add that additional bite to your wings. Surprisingly not that many people have heard about these Ghost Peppers.

The main ingredient behind this new range of sauces is the ghost pepper, just as the name implies. At one point it was regarded as the most potent chili pepper naturally grown. It has it's roots in certain North Eastern states of India, but now it is grown in more locations as demand has grown.

Depending upon the original growing region this chili goes by various different names. If you view a map of India, locate the Brahmaputra river. To the North of here these chilies are known as Bhut Jolokia. To the South they become known as Naga Jolokia. In each region the word Jolokia just refers to the Capsicum chili pepper. Whereas Bhut is the Assamese word for Ghost.

When called the Naga Jolokia, this is paying tribute to the Naga tribe of warriors. These were fierce in battle, and so it was felt to be a fitting name, as it reflects the fiery nature of this sauce.

Regarding the heat of various types of chilies people are often unaware how this gets measured. They are all given a measurement on something known as the Scoville scale. The higher the number, the hotter the chili, with the heat coming from something known as capsaicin. Almost a century ago it was thought up by a man named Wilbur Scoville. In those days it involved judges tasting the various different species of chili peppers and rating them accordingly.

Salt is just one commonly used flavour enhancer used in kitchens throughout the world. Another commonly used ingredient is the chili, which might surprise some individuals. However next time you are in your grocery store, take a look at the display of different salsa dressings, they will all contain chilies. Now consider how often these salsas are used on a daily basis. Even foreign recipes will often include chilies as part of their ingredients.

Many are now claiming that some of these hotter chilies also have certain medicinal benefits. Once again it all seems to involve this capsaicin, or the element that gives chilies their heat. Medical trials have been conducted with various levels of success, and quite a few surprising results.

It is not always possible to claim that your favourite sauce could also be helping to keep you healthy. Many people indicate that the unique smell and taste of these chilies already give a couple of their senses a robust workout. However you choose to use this sauce, one thing that you can be sure of is that it is not some average condiment.

This ghost pepper wing sauce is only for those who like a bit of fire with their meals. Always keep it in a convenient spot in your kitchen. Due to its versatile nature it can bring life to even the blandest of food.
