Sugar Cookies & 3 Steps Towards Great Results

By Katie Arden

When it comes to the most popular sweets, I believe that attention should be drawn to sugar cookies. These are some of the best treats out there and, when baked well, can provide the taste that any sweet tooth can respond well to. However, you have to consider that not every cookie is made the same. There are certain methods to take up and if you want to prepare these cookies with quality intact, make note of these 3 tips for the future.

To start off, you must ensure that the flavor of your sugar cookies is kept simple. It's enough to say that the flavor in question is "sweet," but how these confectioneries reach that point is another story entirely. Most bakers insist on using vanilla alone, as this will not only give a simple flavor but one that can curb one's taste for something sweet. Even though other mild flavors may be added, it's in the best interest of the chef to keep a minimalist approach in mind.

You should also know that, before the prior step is even taken, the dough is best when it is able to cool. In fact, you would be better served if you were to take your cookie dough and keep it in the refrigerator for about a half hour or so. Not only will the dough itself be easier to work with but it'll make for much better baking endeavors as well. Once this is done, you will be well on your way to creating sugar cookies to be enjoyed to their fullest.

It's also important to recognize when sugar cookies are baked enough. It's easy to imagine that allowing cookies to bake until their golden brown is enough; this isn't the case with sugar cookies. These treats require just a bit of color, on the surface, before they are allowed to come out of the oven. To say that this is a vital point would be an understatement and I am sure that you'll come to realize this as you continually work in the culinary arts.

Suffice it to say, there are quite a few pointers designed to help you bake your sugar cookies better. This isn't to say that your own unique touches aren't worth incorporating, as they may be the difference between bland treats and appetizing confectioneries for anyone to dig into. However, it's important to recognize how some of the most basic points can come together for greater success. Once they do exactly that, your sugar cookies will come out even better.
