An Overview Of Custom BBQ Pits

By Gary Mitchell

It is fair to say that it is great to have a BBQ with your family and friends on a beautiful sunny day. Custom bbq pits will help you to enjoy lovely food with the your family and friends. Creating a home bbq pit is a large landscape project which can challenge many people when they decide to try and do it themselves. It is however possible to do it when you have the right tools and materials and of course the knowledge.

The tools that you will require to be able to do the job correctly would be gravel. A shovel, water, morter mix, hand lamp, cinder braces, grill top, trowel, bricks and metal braces. All of these items are very easy to get if you do not already have them as they will all be available from the local home improvements or hardware store.

The first task that you need to do is to decide on the location for the pit. The pit should be located in an area that will allow it to used to its maximum potential. Avoid having the pit too close to the house or you could end up with everything smelling like a BBQ if smoke goes into the house. If the smoke goes into the house you will find that soon all the stuff in the house will smell like a BBQ, which really nobody will want regardless of how much they like bbqs.

Another very important thing that you need to consider is how big you want the pit to be and how much of your yard space will it take up. You do not want the pit to take up too much space otherwise there will not be any space left to relax and enjoy the great outdoor space. Think about this in a practical manner as once you have built the pit it would be a shame to have to remove it again because it does not work in a practical manner.

Once you have completed all of the planning then the you will need to next decide which shape you want it to be. You can have a BBQ pit which is ether square or rectangular.

The shape that you decide will be mainly based on your preference and the space that is available for the pit. Once all of the planning work has been done then you are ready to start on preparing the area. The initial job that you will need to do is to dig out a space in the ground which is about eight inches in depth and about fifty meters across. This area will need to be cleared and the surface will need to be leveled off.

The next task which you will have to do is to spread the gravel until it is about two inches thick and cover it with one layer of mortar on top of the gravel so it extends to a few inches from the edge. Use the trowel to place the combined water and mortar in the pit.

Then smooth up the area whilst the mortar is actually still wet. Continue to do this process until the pit is at the height where you require it to be for using.
