Some Of The Greatest Traditional Australian Food Recipes

By Richard Powell

There are all sorts of recipes which exist in Australia. Great chefs come from this part of the world. Many chefs have grown up with traditional Australian food recipes and now have developed other recipes, incorporating ingredients from their local country, but applying other methods as well. It becomes more of a gourmet dish.

One may think that you are being cruel devouring burgers which contain kangaroo meat - the cute little roo which you saw jumping around the day before. However, kangaroos are everywhere and sometimes, farmers have problems coping with them. They become a nuisance. It is the same with rabbits in England which keep on breeding and become annoying as well.

The cuisine is different depending on where you go in the country. You may go to the city, where you will go through a satisfying tasting sensation. Your meal may be split up according to the wines that it is being paired off with and this can be a really nice adventure. However, a meal in the Outback is not quite the same.

First of all, the hospitality is quite different. You may feel as though you are entering the home of someone. The decor will probably be rough and ready. Food is really traditional in these parts. You may expect a burger which can be made up of kangaroo. For animal activists this may be something that they are not going to be happy about. However, there are many kangaroos everywhere in the area. They are breeding all the time, and it is something that one has to at least have a bite of before leaving the bright red sand.

A big breakfast is something that most Australians will relish when staying in the Outback, especially when maintaining a farm. This can consist of eggs and bacon. Most people won't go without Vegemite which usually is included in the diet. All Australians are almost obsessed about this type of spread.

You can't leave the country without experimenting with some of the fish. Calamari is done in a specific way. Fresh fish fillets are served on the beach in newspaper. They come in the form of a schnitzel. Chips will always accompany this. John Dory fillets are hugely popular, especially in Sydney which is where they are found. They are served with chips or mashed potatoes.

Australians claim that they were the nation who came up with pea and ham soup. It is debatable since this particular meal has been a number one favorite all over England and other parts of the world. However, Australians also use sausage for a variation here.

The prawn cocktail is something that everyone will remember from the 70's. It is so easy to make, yet it seemed to be perfect for the occasion. It is a simple starter with prawns, covered in a little mayonnaise. The tomato dressing was dropped on top. Not many people knew that the origin was from Australia.
