Quick Recipes That Are Tasty As Well

By Peter Cook

When you are short of time, you will probably want to reduce your cooking time. Think of planning for the next day with the leftovers. For example a Bolognese sauce you used for pasta can also be beefed up with chilli beans with rice added and converted into chilli con carne. Soups can be made out of this as well. There may be leftovers that one can take to work the next day. Most people will have a microwave here. It means that you don't have to run out of the office and it usually means that you would opt for a more unhealthy option. There are many quick recipes which you can turn to.

You will probably find that pancakes are not the best choice, no matter what meal you are preparing them for. However, crepes are great because they are paper thin. They are very easy to prepare, and you can add a saucy filling, such as Bolognese or mushrooms and bacon. These also make a quick dessert which don't pile on the calories. They can be filed with cinnamon and sugar or something more substantial. You can give your guests a scoop of ice-cream.

It especially applies when kids are young. The best part is that you can learn to experiment. A twenty minute meal can come in the form of saucy chicken drumsticks, along with green beans or peas and baby potatoes. A mustard dressing is a nice addition to the potatoes.

If you work in a systematic fashion, you will find that you can get these meals done quickly. You also need to have all of your ingredients together before you start. Grocery shopping is obviously important. Without adequate planning and preparation you will become stuck.

Having something like a pack of stir fry veg along with some chicken in the refrigerator is a good idea. This can go very quickly. A hot pan is necessary. You will need the basic sauce recipe. A variation of this can be to add peanut butter or to think of serving noodles instead of rice. There are so many different recipes for stir fries around. It is great to experiment with this.

Toasted ciabatta is great because you could put anything on here. An example of a great topping is fresh leaves, pesto, cocktail tomatoes and goat cheese. The appearance makes all of the difference. There are great dips that you could make ahead of time. These will last some time.

If you entertain a lot, it is worthwhile making things like hummus and tahini as well as various types of pesto which may be served with cheese straws, toasted ciabatta and vegetables which are crunchy. Toasted nuts that have been spiced up also make a good choice and are easy to make.

In the winter time, people look to cooking things like soup which can be easy to make. This goes a long way. It can be made in advance and stored in the freezer. For example, a basic pea and ham soup only takes 20 minutes to make. This is really filling and it warms you up. Tomato soup is always possible and easy to make. Butternut squash soup is something that anyone can make.
