The Origin Of The Well Known Bhut Jolokia Sauce

By Alba Durham

An aspect in a culture of a country always has a connection with their food. Each place has something to brag about including the hot sauces that originated from their place. In India, a popular one that made the country well known is the bhut jolokia sauce. I was able to beat the hotness of the popular Red Savina Peppers that landed as the hottest ones in the world in 1994.

In 2004, the same body recognized it as the hottest existing chile in the world. It was known to be two times hotter than the Red Savina. Ever since its declaration during that year, the popularity of this sauce has continued to soar high.

The other name for this plant is ghost pepper as what Indians call it. There was skepticism when it was first announced as the hottest one all over the world. However, these doubts were silenced when the Indian Defense Research Laboratory made some tests that proved its hotness level to be the highest in the world.

People in Sri Lanka as well as in Bangladesh also cultivate these peppers in their countries. Some of these pepper plantations also grow them in some parts of the UK and also in the United States. Those who cultivate them usually pickles them and put them as one of the important ingredients in cooking the popular Indian curry.

Aside from being a staple part of many Indian dishes, it can also be used in many ways that other people may not expect them to be used. Ghost peppers can also be useful when it comes to curing and treating ailments that are related to the stomach. It is also possible to use them as an elephant repellent.

The weather In India is quite hot and people there also use these plants to keep themselves cool. However, you may wonder how does a thing that is known to be hot help in keeping others feel cool. The reason behind this is the fact that if you eat any spicy food, it will promote sweating. One you perspire, the heat from your body will be released thus resulting to coolness.

There are many varieties of these chili in a variety of colors like orange, green and fiery red. Their skin is dented and is not smooth compared to those of Habaneros. Even if the way they look may not be the same, the method of cultivating them are pretty much the same. In the Assam region, the hottest ones are being cultivated in the rainy, yet humid weather.

If you want to work on the cultivation of these peppers, then you have to take note of some things before doing so. First, do not be fooled by the sweet melon aroma that it exudes because this is definitely deceiving. You also have to make sure that you will be wearing gloves and other protective gear.

Things that will protect your eyes from any damage and masks for easier breathing must be worn in harvesting. You need to so as the pepper is grinded to produce bhut jolokia sauce. Eating raw pepper is alright, but you have to make sure that you are actually going to eat with something sweet.
